Dear Ms ***
Thank you for your email.
In his letter to the Celia Hammond Animal Trust on 17 September 2007,
David Higgins, Chief Executive of the ODA stated that the site
contractors and project manager have competent staff who carry out
inspections prior to commencement of any building demolition. We are
committed to contacting the Celia Hammond Trust should any evidence of
kittens, lactating or pregnant cats be identified in an area programmed
for demolition. To date, we have no reported evidence.
We have agreed to work closely with the Celia Hammond Trust as part of
our comprehensive plan to protect and relocate wildlife on the Olympic
Park site. Health and safety is our number one priority. We are managing
an enormous demolition site that will become the biggest construction
site in Europe. It is crucial that we protect the safety of workers,
visitors and local people by ensuring that only properly trained and
authorised people access the site.
The trusts own literature says that adult cats will move off potential
construction sites and that kittens are the major concern - our plan and
agreement with the Trust reflects this.
Kind Regards
London 2012 Team

Dear Ms ***,
The Resc. of Cats on the Olympic Site
Thank you for your email in regard to the rescuing of feral cats at the Olympic Site. As Senior Policy Officer for Animal Protection I have been asked to reply.
I have been in communication with the Olympic Delivery Authority over this matter. The ODA have informed me that they have instructed their contractors to keep a watching brief and survey any buildings for feral cats before demolition. Should any evidence of feral cats especially kittens, lactating or pregnant cats be identified in an area designated for demolition, then I understand that the Celia Hammond Animal Trust will be contacted immediately so the cats can be removed. To date the Trust have captured 147 cats.
Any legally protected species found on the site are being carefully relocated to appropriate locations. Large numbers of common amphibians and reptiles have also been relocated despite there being no legal obligation to do so.
I hope this alleviates some of your concerns as outlined in your email.
Yours sincerely,
Sally Hamilton
Senior Policy Officer - Animal Protection.

*hm*
Ach... Dummschwätzer.
